Abingdon Music Centre

Abingdon Music Centre

Abingdon Music Centre is a registered charity, established over 40 years ago to give the people of Abingdon opportunities to make music, whatever their age or experience and its activities are run by a committed and enthusiastic team of music teachers, administrators and volunteers.

Our popular Mini Music Makers programme provides parents, carers and even grandparents the opportunity to come along on any weekday morning and enjoy singing, playing instruments and moving to music with their baby, toddler or pre-schooler. Our carefully planned activities are delivered by qualified teachers and musicians who aim to foster a lifelong love of music in our fun and friendly groups.

We also offer after-school Mini Music Makers classes for children in Reception and Year 1, then recorder, musicianship and guitar classes for children in Year 2 and above.

For adults, we run a ladies’ choir, a community choir, a singing for pleasure group for over 50s, a community orchestra and various instrumental groups.

We also run holiday workshops for primary-age children, host activities on behalf of other groups and run outreach projects in the town, offering bespoke courses for various groups within the local community, including residents of care homes.

Under normal circumstances our groups regularly take part in various community activities in the local area as well as stage our own performances. While recent circumstances have meant that we have had to temporarily suspend face-to-face activities, we have continued to run our sessions online and made every effort to make sure these are just as enjoyable and effective. Our Mini Music Makers, for example, have the option of receiving a free AMC instrument bag, delivered to their door, to bring their online sessions to life and make them interactive. Our ladies' choir have had their music delivered where needed and our community choir, orchestra and adult instrumental groups have been able to record and submit their own parts so that we can put them together to create virtual group recordings.

Please help us to bring the benefits of participating in music to more people.
